View this 57- minute documentary and meet co-producer Rachel Eskin Fisher, Ph.D.
This 2014 documentary about Rabbi Joachim Prinz is not to be missed. He saved many Jewish lives
before being expelled from Germany in 1937. As Rabbi of Temple B'nai Abraham in Newark, NJ, and
later as President of the American Jewish Congress, Prinz became a leader of the civil rights
movement. From synagogues in 1930s Berlin to the March on Washington in 1963, Rabbi Prinz would
not be silenced as a leader in the Civil Rights Movement. Moments before Reverend Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr. delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, Rabbi Prinz stood before that same crowd
declaring: “Bigotry and hatred are not the most urgent problems. The most urgent, the most
disgraceful, the most shameful, and the most tragic problem is silence.” His was a strong and powerful
voice in his day, and he continues to offer a critical message in ours.
Attend the screening of this biographical film, hear about the making of this documentary and ask
questions of one of the producers, Rachel Eskin Fisher, Ph.D.
Rachel Eskin Fisher holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Religion from UC Santa Barbara. She was the
founding Director of the Genealogy Institute at the Center for Jewish History in Manhattan. She is a
partner in R Squared Productions with Rachel Pasternak. Together they have produced and directed
two documentary films, the most recent of which is Joachim Prinz: I Shall Not Be Silent.
